Ald. Knudsen Thanks Voters on Apparent Win in 43rd Ward Race

Chicago — Alderman Timmy Knudsen sent the following message to 43rd Ward residents today on his apparent win in the aldermanic race.

Grateful. Honored. Energized.

Hi Neighbor,

The 43rd Ward voted in droves to elect a new mayor and alderman, setting a record for the highest turnout in a municipal election this century.

Six months ago, it was humbling to have been given the opportunity to serve as the first LGBTQ Alderman of the 43rd Ward, and now, with every precinct reporting, I am so grateful to have received 7,955 votes, the most of any 43rd Ward alderman. We are confident that as VBM ballots are counted that our lead will hold and that I will be elected to a four year term. (You can check the daily vote totals here.)

We made it this far because of the broad coalition of supporters behind this campaign. I am filled with such gratitude to 43rd Ward Democratic Committeeman Lucy Moog; State Reps. Margaret Croke, Ann Williams and Greg Harris, Senator Sara Feigenholtz, former opponents Rebecca Janowitz and Wendi Taylor Nations, and every former 43rd Ward Alderperson for sharing your advice and support throughout this campaign.

Together, we knocked on more than 22,000 doors to hear the concerns of neighbors and to take quick action to advance your priorities. We invested in security cameras across our ward, to fill officer vacancies and to fund anti-violence programs. We blocked tax hikes that would have hit families and business owners alike. And we protected our fundamental rights. Over the next four years, I cannot wait to advance this pragmatic progressive agenda.

Our ward has been served well by the tradition of independence that half a century of 43rd Ward Alderpeople have set, which I have vowed to continue. Throughout the campaign, I’ve said I look forward to working with and holding accountable whoever Chicagoans elect as its leader. To Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson, congratulations. I wish you and your administration nothing but the best in leading our city in this critical time. There are many challenges and opportunities facing our city, and I pledge to be a partner in problem solving, finding common ground, and continuing to move our city government in the right direction.

I’m a strong believer that Chicago’s best days are ahead. We may have our share of problems, but our people are strong and we owe it to you to ensure our government carries that strength forward.

Let’s get to work,

Timmy Knudsen

43rd Ward Alderman
