IUOE Local 150 Endorses Ald. Knudsen in 43rd Ward Race

Operating Engineers Are Third Labor Union to Join Growing List of Endorsements 

Chicago — The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 have endorsed Ald. Timmy Knudsen in the 43rd Ward race, becoming the third labor union to join his growing list of endorsements.

“I’m grateful to have the support of IUOE Local 150 in this race and share their priorities of boosting our city’s economic vibrancy and improving public safety,” said Alderman Timmy Knudsen. “Over the last few months, I’ve shown that consensus building is a priority of mine, listening to leaders all across the 43rd ward and Chicago as a whole to make ours the best city to live, work and visit. Let's keep working together to build a better Chicago.”

“This election comes at a critical time for the City of Chicago, and we have endorsed candidates who will believe are committed to taking our city out of a troubled chapter in its history and into an era of safety, prosperity and cooperation,” said Local 150 President-Business Manager James M. Sweeney. “We need leadership that partners with the City Council, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to ensure the economic vitality of the City and the safety of all who live and work here. With the right leadership and a strong City Council, there is no limit to the heights that Chicago can reach.”

The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 represents nearly 23,000 working men and women in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa. The union represents workers in various industries, including construction, construction material development, public works, concrete pumping, steel mill service, slag processing and more. 

Earlier this month, the Chicago Federation of Labor and AFSCME Council 31 also endorsed Ald. Knudsen, joining the following local leaders in advancing his candidacy:

  • State Rep. Margaret Croke

  • State Rep. Ann Williams

  • House Majority Leader Greg Harris

  • Bill Singer, 43rd & 44th Ward Alderman (1969 - 1975)

  • Charles Bernardini, 43rd Ward Alderman (1993 - 1999)

  • John Cullerton, former Senate President 

  • Caroline Vickrey, former 43rd Ward Aldermanic Candidate

  • Jared Smith, Co-Founder of RXBAR and longtime 43rd Ward resident

  • Justin DeJong, Board Chair of Equality Illinois

  • Art Johnston, legendary LGBTQ+ activist, founder of Equality Illinois and co-owner of Sidetrack  

  • State Rep. Lamont Robinson
